“Every time I travel through the Mediterranean, I’m reminded of how good food can make you feel, physically and emotionally,” said chef Josh Dalton, known for his acclaimed restaurants like Veritas and Speck. “It’s not just about the flavors; it’s about the people, the ease, the generosity. With Amara, we want to bring that feeling back home to Columbus.”
Amara, meaning “immortal” or “eternal” in Sanskrit, and “unfading” in Greek, is the name of Dalton’s new restaurant, which is set to open at 229 S. Civic Center Drive, in the former Milestone 229 space.

According to the press release, Amara’s menu will feature food that “nourishes both body and soul,” drawing from flavors and traditions of Southern Europe, North Africa and the Eastern Mediterranean. Think vibrant vegetables, olive oils, fresh herbs, grains, seafood, housemade dips, spreads, and fresh-baked breads.
Keeping the Downtown crowd in mind, Amara will offer quick, handheld lunch pitas for those on their lunch break, and elevated, shareable plates for those having a leisurely dinner on the Scioto Mile.
Dalton’s new restaurant is expected to seat about 70 people inside with plentiful patio seating overlooking the Scioto Mile Fountain. Amara will utilize the Center City DORA, and signature cocktail and wine offerings will be designed to sip and stroll along the riverfront.
An opening date has yet to be announced, but Dalton is hoping for a spring debut.
