I was aiming for a charcoal Weber Go-Anywhere, for Christmas.

Wife ended up getting a gas Go-Anywhere (Model 1534, dated 12/97) instead.
Picked up via FB Marketplace and it's never been used. In great condition for its age.

  • Burner tube + grates are spotless
  • Lights and runs fine
  • Only light surface rust on the body
  • Original regulator, no mods

I know the charcoal version is the one people rave about, but this thing feels very solidly built compared to modern stuff, and the gas convenience is obvious.

So I’m on the fence:
Is this era of Go Anywhere gas actually worth keeping long-term?

Would you keep it and use it, or flip/trade for charcoal while it’s clean?

Interested in opinions from anyone who’s owned both, especially older Webers.

I plan on taking camping, to the beach etc with wife and 2 kids. Some places where I live can have firebans on charcoal at times

I never had one, but I might. I heard that it’s the best grill for picnics. It’s the easiest to carry, start, shutdown and clean, and contrary to charcoal, it doesn’t leave you with ash and used charcoal to get rid of. Of course, it doesn’t have the flavor of charcoal.

Ive had one 25 plus years, don’t always use it but when I need it it’s clutch . No complaints, keep it clean or it will smoke like a chimney

Great grill for a quick meal. Good for burgers, Brauts, dogs and chicken. It runs hot so no chance of any low and slow indirect style cooks. I have both the gas from the 90’s and the charcoal. I use both for different needs. You definitely want the older gas version opposed to the newer gas version. Weber changed the flavorizor plate and grate to a single grate solution in the newer ones. You can replace the older flavorizor tent to a stainless from Amazon if the old one starts to rust out.

You can get a rotisserie attachment that fits both versions and gives you more distance to the grate on Amazon also.
