Beautiful Chasagne-Montrachet to celebrate my 30th birthday

So… yesterday night I became older, and nothing says getting old like drinking a great burgundy white.

I’d been saving this bottle for a while because it’s very special to me. I’m a sommelier, and it was a gift from some wonderful guests I met while managing a venue on a small tourist island. They came in with no big expectations, ended up loving the place, and after closing we shared a great bottle of Volnay while talking about my time in France and my love for Burgundy. The next day they came back and gave me this bottle they had bought directly at the winery before their trip.

This bottle was made by Nicolas Potel, son of Gérard Potel, one of the most famous winemakers in charge of the Domaine de la Pousse D'Or, and bought by the friends I made directly from the domaine itself, a few weeks before Nicolas comited suicide.

I expected this to be too young but not at all. It was full and exuberant, balanced and not as sharp as I expected. I am pretty used to try this exact appellation but not this concrete climat. Nose was as fragrant as it gets, oily, oaky, a ton of lemon peel and melon, on the mouth, thick and full, wet stones, more melon, vanilla, oil, lingering for minutes on your palate after every sip. Maybe the wine itself was a bit more tropical than other burgundy chardos I've tried, but the elegance, the thickness and the minerality was right there. What a beautiful experience.

Sadly, I never asked the customers that have it to me for any contact info, so I cannot tell them what a great wine this was. Maybe some of them uses reddit and will recognize the bottle.
