An immersive evening of Italian wine, education and community connection is coming to Historic Rugby on Jan. 31, when certified sommelier Justin Branim leads a special tasting event benefiting Historic Rugby, Inc.
The event, scheduled from 6-8:30 p.m. Eastern time in Rugby’s Hester Hall, will take guests on a guided journey through Italy’s remarkably diverse wine regions. From the sun-drenched hills of Tuscany to the dramatic volcanic soils of Mount Etna in Sicily, the tasting will highlight both rare indigenous varietals and beloved Italian classics. Attendees can expect a carefully curated selection of reds, whites, rosés, and Champagne-method sparkling wines, each thoughtfully paired with premium cured meats, artisanal cheeses, rustic bread, and authentic olive oil.
Doors will open at 6 p.m. Eastern, with the guided tasting beginning at 6:30 p.m. The evening is designed not only as a tasting, but as an opportunity for discovery and conversation, offering guests deeper insight into Italy’s wine traditions, terroir and regional character.
Leading the experience is Justin Branim, a board-certified sommelier through the Court of Master Sommeliers and a graduate of the Napa Valley Wine Academy. Branim brings an impressive résumé to Historic Rugby, having previously served as sommelier for Kayne Prime Steakhouse and the Hutton Hotel in Nashville, as well as Urban Farmer at the Oxford Hotel in Denver, Colorado. His background also includes experience in wine education and distribution, giving him a well-rounded perspective that blends technical expertise with an approachable teaching style.
The evening carries special significance for the Rugby community. Branim is the grandson of longtime Rugby resident Rita Myers, adding a meaningful layer to an already anticipated event.
Tickets are $60 and can be purchased at historicrugby.org/events. All proceeds from the tasting will benefit Historic Rugby, Inc., supporting the nonprofit’s ongoing operations and preservation efforts. Thanks to generous event sponsors, 100 percent of ticket sales will go directly toward sustaining the historic village and its programming.
