Buddy of mine gifted me this for Christmas. Highly recommend. Charcoal is ready 10x faster than a chimney!

I can walk away from the chimney and I don’t need to buy canisters.

  2. SomedayIWillRetire

Sure, but you burn through a gas canister and have to buy another. Newspaper for a chimney starter is effectively free, and everywhere.

I’m not knocking it, it just ain’t for me. Same reason why a Weber Performer with the gas ignition assist was never appealing either.

I bought one of these and I haven’t used a chimney since. I’m thinking about getting rid of my chimneys.

How are you going to have time for your pre grill drink this way?

  5. sportbikeSam

Call me crazy but the wait is part of the “me” time I enjoy along with the fire control. I use the free newspaper that comes in the mail and a chimney still

Covert it to a 20lb tank attachment. Way more BTUs and you won’t be buying bottles every 3rd cook. I’ve been using a $20 weed burner for 40yrs. Full light in 1 minute.

    What’s the rush youngster…. 😎

  8. Something about the wait for me using a chimney is soothing, although I would use one of these for fun every once in a while if I could lol

Right?! I got one too and it’s been a game changer. I had a chimney over a gas cooker before that which was often infuriating and used so much more gas

Ignore the others, that’s bad ass! I’m going to get one!

I just grab a small stack of the grocery store ads on my way out and use a chimney. But yeah man flamethrower goes way harder.

  12. White-runner

I want one but I don’t. I like just using a tumbleweed and then kicking around in the kitchen prepping and drinking beer while it gets going.

I burn the bag. Its great. And im a plumber with torches

  14. QStatus

I use these for quick/small cooks or reigniting old flames with new coals.

I use a weed burner version of this (connects to anything pretty much), I know a lot of folks are saying “just use a chimney”, but this has been a lifesaver for smoking; I’ve had a few times where it’s 8-9 hours in with my WSM and all my charcoal is gone and need to do an emergency refill. And it doesn’t use that much fuel, I’ve easily done 20 starts with an almost empty Coleman stove tank. You hit the coals for about 30 seconds, and let air do the rest.

Part of me loves the peace and time it takes to wait for the chimney to get hot. Another part of me thinks this looks super fun and wants to torch my coals.

Couple this with a propane tank hose adapter and you mitigate the refil issue. Then add a battery powered hand blower and you can have coals gtg in under 30 seconds.
When you get home late and need to cook asap, the above combo is a life saver.

Why do you want fewer excuses?

Wife needs something? “In a minute I’ve got to season the meat before the fire’s ready”

Conversation with relatives who are blind to all social queues? “Sorry to cut you off but I gotta go check the fire.”

But yeah, fire good, big fire with trigger gooder

I’m in a condo and this is the only way I could enjoy cooking with charcoal and keeping the peace with my neighbors.

  20. CemeteryHeights

It’s dope. I also have one. They’re just jealous they don’t have a flamethrower.

  21. GurglingGarfish

    I ain’t in no rush, fam. 🍺🥃

I have a little handheld electronics blower. Some of the charcoal I have is really dense, so it takes an inordinate amount of time to properly light. Once the starters go out and the bottom coals are lit, I get it going with the little blower and things get lit in about 1/2 the time or less.

This is a useful, worthy gadget – could become a staple in some yall’s inventory.

As for me and my back deck, we will continue utilizing the time from “Start chimney” to “Throw down meat and replace cover” to put away lawn mowing equipment, pour drink, and light cigar.

Smoke em if you got em (protein, that is).
