This morning, chef Pasquale “Pat” Pascarella announced the closure of Alici Oyster Bar in Virginia-Highland, next to Trader Joe’s. The restaurant was open for nearly three years. It also houses its Hemingway-inspired speakeasy, Bar Pilar, which is temporarily closed. Pascarella’s casual Italian eatery, Bastone, closed in West Midtown in March last year.

“Thank you to everyone who shared a meal, a laugh, a celebration, or a quiet night with us along the way,” reads the caption on Alici’s Instagram post. “While this chapter is coming to a close, the story isn’t over. What comes next is already taking shape, and we can’t wait to share it when the time is right.”

Pascarella, who owns the Porchetta Group, also runs Michelin-recommended the White Bull in Decatur and three locations of Grana. Pascarella did not provide a reason for Alici’s closing, but promises a “new opening” is underway, and that it was “just time for a change.”

The Blind Pig Parlour, Tin Lizzy’s Cantina, and four food stalls at Ponce City Market, including chef Hector Santiago’s La Metro and chef Guy Wong’s Ton Ton Ramen & Yakitori, are among the latest string of restaurant closings in the city. Alici Oyster Bar was known for its oyster specials, handmade pasta, and wine.
