A much-loved Italian restaurant in Newcastle is set to expand with a new café. Pizzeria Francesca is one of the longest-lived Italian trattorias in the North East, having served up pizza and pasta from its Manor House Road base since the 1980s, often with long queues out the door.

Owner Antonio Sardone is set to reopen 5-7 Cavendish Road, which was formerly Daniela’s Deli but closed down several years ago, as Francesca Coffee Bar on Monday, January 19. It will be open from morning till night, with breakfast, pizzas and cocktails on the menu.

Antonio’s nephew, Giovanni Sardone, said that the café would be a new challenge. They hope to appeal to Jesmond’s students for cocktails before meals and going out, while focusing on serving takeaway pizzas, both full and by the slice.

A post on Facebook said: “From the same family behind Francesca Restaurant, we are proud to welcome you to Francesca Coffee Bar, a place created with the same love, passion, and care you already know.

“We truly hope you’ll continue to support us and enjoy our coffee just as you’ve supported Francesca over the years. We can’t wait to welcome you, share a smile, and make you feel at home.”

Francesca Coffee Bar opens at 8am on Monday, January 19.
