A popular Italian restaurant with four locations in Toronto has just revealed plans for a new Mississauga location.

A new Mercatto will open at 230 Missinnihe Way in Port Credit’s Brightwater development on March 13, the company tells INsauga.com.

This summer, fans of the eatery would have seen signs going up at the new Port Credit location.

Founded in 1998, Mercatto is a Toronto-born Italian dining brand known for its modern approach to Italian cuisine.

“Rooted in Italian food culture as a place to gather, linger and connect, Mercatto balances classic flavours with a contemporary, welcoming dining experience,” the restaurant says.

Mercatto Hospitality operates the four downtown Toronto locations, each reflecting a distinct expression of the brand.

Mercatto Centrale in Port Credit marks the brand’s first location outside Toronto.

The approximately 8,500-square-foot building will have about 5,000 square feet dedicated to dining, a bar and private dining spaces with a seating capacity of 290 guests.

There will be 200-plus indoor seats and 90-plus seats on the patio.

The design of Mercatto Centrale draws inspiration from The Birth of Venus, interpreted through subtle, modern details rather than literal references, the restaurant says.

“Linear yet fluid patterns reflect the building’s waterfront setting and architectural lines, while sculptural, vaulted ceilings create a sense of movement and openness, giving the space an elegant, coastal feel rooted in Italian sensibility,” the description reads.

Executive Chef Doug Neigel leads the kitchen, balancing beloved Italian classics with thoughtfully reimagined dishes.

Menu highlights include antipasti dishes — Fritto Misto with calamari, shrimp, zucchini, polenta and fennel crema, Beets and Ricotta with green kale and garlic pangrattato, and Arancini with saffron risotto and mozzarella, tomato filetto.

Chilled seafood dishes include fresh oysters and a seafood platter.

There will be a range of pizzas including Diavola with spicy soppressata, tomato, fior di latte and basil, Prosciutto with arugula, tomato, grana padano and fior di latte and Pepperoni with ezzo pepperoni, cracked coriander, fennel seed, tomato and mozzarella.

Pasta dishes include Orecchiette Pugliese with fennel sausage, Chitarra Alla Carbonara and a pan-seared lasagna.

A spicy chicken dish and prime New York striploin are also on the menu.

Mercatto Centrale will be the only Mercatto location offering brunch, featuring a curated menu designed specifically for the Port Credit location.
