Family-owned Italian firm Bottega SpA, best known in travel retail for its prosecco wines and grappa, is set to launch its new Whisky Alexander range into duty free this year.

Already available domestically, the Whisky Alexander range comprise three single-malt expressions: a 40% ABV Red Wine Cask finish, a 43% ABV Brunello Cask finish, and a 46% ABV Amarone Cask Finish. Each whisky has been matured in traditional oak casks for a minimum of four years with a further two years in barrels that previously contained wines from the family’s Chianti, Montalcino and Valpolicella wineries.

Bottega SpA Founder Sandro Bottega described the launch of Whisky Alexander as “strategic”. “It is definitely a challenging medium-to-long-term project because we not only have to launch a brand but the new category of Italian whisky,” he noted.

Besides Whisky Alexander, Bottega said his company would continue its ambition to further premiumise the prosecco category in travel retail in 2026. “Twenty years ago, prosecco was not considered as highly as Champagne; then, with Bottega Gold, it became the perfect product for the duty-free channel.

“Now we want to smooth out the gap with Champagne, offering to the consumer different levels of quality for our Prosecco selection,” he added. “Bottega is the first Prosecco winery to offer simultaneously five vintage prosecco [wines], from 2021 to 2025.”
