Hug Esan is one of the great Thai Esan spots in Elmhurst, Queens.
Love the nom khao tod. Great combination of flavors and textures. You’ll get bits of chewy rice, bits of crispy rice, and sour pork sausage. There’s also notes of spicy and sweet.
The larb pla is incredible. The fried crust is airy and crispy and gives way to tender hunks of tilapia. It comes with lettuce, herbs, and sticky rice which you can make a wrap with or just eat with rice. Make sure to use the sweet tamarind sauce.

Easily my favorite two dishes there. I also like their Tum Plara Goong Sod a lot.
I love Hug Esan! I just wish they didn’t jack up their prices or else I would be there regularly.
