This sort of reddish-brown staining has been building up here a while, but I thought it was possibly due to the coffee or something else. If it is rust, how can I clean it?? Thank you!!

Looks like coffee. I take a damp q-tip and run it along that edge to wipe off the grounds.

Coffee stain. Consider reading a manual on your machine to learn how to properly clean it occasionally. I do my pop+ once a week. If you don’t clean it eventually you will get bar code error readings.

Close the head of your machine without a capsule inside and press the extraction button three times very fast.
This will start the cleaning mode and it will stop by itself when it’s done.
