Don’t try the restaurants that friend goes to

Now *this* is an absolutely **diabolical** take.

There certainly is! Store sushi can definitely be good, but a quality sushi restaurant is no match, the freshness makes such a difference!

Friend just lacks experience. I’ve been to sushi restaurants that are no better than supermarket sushi. It’s pure sadness, but unfortunately they exist and are quite common.

    My mom says the same thing and I genuinely don’t understand her. I’m the only person in the family who really eats sushi sometimes (because it’s super expensive here) so I bought her some pieces to try it out a bunch of times. She later bought Lidl sushi and told me it “tastes the same” and that I’m overpaying for restaurant sushi ;-;

It depends where you live. The grocery store sushi at Wegmans in upstate NY beats many local sushers, and it’s more affordable to boot.

Here in Japan, many of the boxed sushi from stores is higher quality than a lot of the chain restaurants that serve the same basic stuff everyday.

Because they get fresher and local fish, rather than through a chain supplier. But local sushi restaurants are usually best!

Whatever sushi restaurant your friend is going to, do not go to that one. Grocery store sushi certainly can be delicious, however if the establishment your going to offers premium quality for a premium price experience the restaurant should be leagues ahead. Not to mention sushi is already pretty affordable

No difference from a hotpocket from the fridge and dominos pizza. /s

  10. My local grocer brought in a sushi chef to run his own business. It was amazing. He managed all his own purchasing and scheduling decisions. He was not an employee of the grocery store. Stocked an amazing case of stuff for them. We even hired him to do sushi on site at our holiday company party(for a brewery and restaurant). He made better sushi than anyone within 30 miles +.

I will say there is some very mid restaurant sushi and some pretty nice supermarket sushi (pretty nice as far as supermarket sushi goes), so depending on what he’s had, it might be comparable to them. Take them to ur favorite restaurant.

Depending on the store and the restaurant, he’s not wrong.

Your friend doesn’t know what they’re talking about.

I love Deli Sushi. There is a difference though.

You can absolutely get some *good* sushi from a store. But sushi from a good sushi restaurant is another level.

Also do they like sushi? Or do they like tempura and California rolls?

And your friend has never spent any time in Japan.

Dierbergs – Missouri based grocery store.
They have a sushi chef. It is good sushi. I buy it often for a work lunch.
Better than many of the sushi restaurants I’ve been to.

I am not sure I agree entirely. I work for a sushi company that partners with higher end grocery stores. While all our products are likely purchased by many of the same reputable suppliers restaurants use, grocery store sushi chefs must make enough to fill their cases by 10:30-11 AM. It also needs to be pre-chilled to under 41Β° for a set amount of time before it can be put into the display case and kept at temp.

Restaurants have the luxury to make rolls as ordered and serve at room temperature.

That said I feel our sushi holds up very well to restaurant-grade. Just a different eating experience.

Your friend has the palette of a farm pig and the brain of one to boot.
