From My Brooklyn perspective
This is a story in the making
It is going to take me a few days to record every part of Arabic influence in my life
Starting with of course, food
And that food would be Pita bread and spinach pies
You see after the fire in Bedford Sty Brooklyn we moved with my Aunt Cookie and Uncle Patty to Atlantic Avenue in the Flatbush section of Brooklyn
Here is the beginning of my love affair with Arabic food
Let’s name a few
Labneh-yogurt sauce
Baba Ghanoush-eggplant dip
Baklava-a sweet pistachio honey soaked dessert
Tabbouleh-A bulgar, parsley, tomato salad with other delicious ingredients
My favorite
Mujadara- rice, lentils and delicious caramelized onions
The famous Falafel-A chick pea and spiced fried ball
The infamous Shish Kabob-
Lamb or beef chunks with vegetables in skewers than grilled ughhhhh
Kibbeh-chopped lamb or beef mixed bulgar tomato sauce with spices and strategically flattened onto flat skewers, then grilled
Rice pilaf – toasted vermicelli noodles with a buttery delicious rice
Called and Arabic rice/Lebanese rice with arms that reach way back into the Persian empire.
Olives- soaked in olive oil with chunks of juicy lemons.
Fruits!! All kinds of!
I need a break. I am hungry
