Il Forno, the long-established Italian restaurant on Duke Street, is set to reopen as Botanico next month, marking a shift in concept for the venue after more than two decades in the city.
The transition reflects the next stage for the Cillo family, which has operated Il Forno since its opening. The move will see the restaurant adopt the Botanico brand, which first launched in Woolton Village in October 2023.
While Il Forno has traditionally focused on classic Italian dining, Botanico will operate as an all-day eatery, serving breakfast, brunch, lunch and evening meals. The updated concept is intended to broaden the venue’s appeal, catering to a mix of residents, visitors and business guests throughout the day.
Botanico’s Woolton site has built a following for its contemporary interiors and Italian-inspired menus, including weekend roasts and afternoon tea. The Duke Street venue will follow a similar approach, combining casual daytime dining with a more traditional bistro offering in the evenings.
Donato Cillo, owner of Botanico, says: “Our decision to evolve Il Forno into Botanico is about listening to our guests and the city we love. Botanico allows us to honour our Italian roots while creating a more dynamic space – one where guests can enjoy exceptional coffee in the morning, relaxed brunches, business lunches, and memorable evening meals, all under one roof.
“Our valued guests can expect the same commitment to authenticity, quality ingredients and warm hospitality, now paired with a contemporary vision and accessible pricing designed to welcome everyone.”
