But he didn’t use all of the gadgets?!

England is the birthplace of football and they’re shit at that as well

To be fair, 20, 30-years ago, we all would have romantacised this video to shit as an example of how artisan Italian baristas are masters of their art. And people have been happily drinking this style of espresso for decades.

If I got served that after a nice meal in Italy, I’d probably feel quite satisfied. It would fit my notion of an after-meal espresso.

Lived a few months in Naples. Was used to the wattery espresso we serve in France. First shots I was stunned, like “what the fuck is this coffee bomb?” A few weeks in I was hooked like every Napolitan out there: I’d find a pretext to drink a shot about every two hours from wake-up to late in the afternoon.

we used to handle radioactive materials without any protection when they discover them. Doesnt mean it was better than now. I think we can say the same about espresso…

there are reasons kids leave their birthplace for better pastures.

Everything looks so damp and messy 🫤

Espresso looks better than 99% of the content posted in this sub.

His tamping precision and pre infusion timing gives me hope I can make a good shot of espresso.

  10. Theoretically Milan is the birthplace of espresso (or Turin if you want to get to the origins of the espresso process). Naples is def. its mecca however 🙂

I live in a town just north of Chicago with tons of coffee shops and “baristas” and it’s so rare to get a quality espresso pour like this.  Not every place, but a lot of them.  They are mostly kids just shoving that thing in the machine and getting drip coffee.  And few understand a good espresso because they all get espresso drinks loaded with caramel and whip cream and all that stuff, so as long as some coffee flavor leaks through, it’s fine.   It’s a shame.
Now you go into the city and it’s a different story.  Chicago and the various cafes are loaded with good baristas and espresso pours.

Did he rinse the side of portafilter while it was packed ?

As an Italian, I can confirm, most coffee shops in Italy can’t make espresso. ☕️

  14. FlyingFalafelMonster

People who commenting that this is concentrated espresso are missing that it is separated into two cups, so it’s a diluted single shot, not a real double shot.

Spring lever espresso is the best.

Do you notice how light the tamp is? This is something I’ve consistently seen with how Italians or the Italian “school” prepare espresso

Why are some people responding negatively to this video?

Doesn’t look fancy, yet the Espresso in Naples was the best I ever had (besides my own, of course 😄).

They know their craftsmanship, non fancy tools needed.

But I am talking only for the bar Espresso, I think lots of coffee bought in the supermarket has a very bad quality. In terms of age and of course because it is pre-ground.

Pair that with a Heineken and a hand-rolled cigarette, and that’s a beautiful breakfast!
