Tiella Trattoria and Bar will open in a venue on Columbia Road, Bethnal Green, on Wednesday, January 21.

Created by Chef Dara Klein, it follows her success at her kitchen residency at The Compton Arms in Islington.

Now, Klein is getting ready to open her first permanent restaurant and is already earning praise from industry experts.

New Italian restaurant serving heartfelt dishes opening in London

Despite not opening its doors yet, Tiella Trattoria and Bar has already been featured in The Good Food Guide.

The outlet recently published a round-up of some of the most exciting restaurant openings in 2026, seeing Klein’s new spot featured.

Describing Tiella Trattoria and Bar, The Good Food Guide wrote: “Throat-catchingly peppery olive oil, a fragrant bay leaf panna cotta, Pugliese pasta cooked straight from the heart.

“Those are my fond memories of Dara Klein’s standout debut at Islington’s Compton Arms, which came to a close at the end of 2024.

“Her first proper restaurant – or, rather, trattoria – opens this month and looks set to become a Columbia Road institution as beloved as the 15-year-old Brawn where Klein worked as a commis chef early on in her career.”

The setting for the new Tiella was originally a Victorian pub called The Globe, but in recent years has operated as The Stingray Globe cafe and pizza restaurant, and Mexican restaurant Cheeky Chicos.

Tiella Trattoria and Bar decor will show off exposed bricks, tiles, and wood features from the original building, while adding vintage touches and mementoes from Klein’s family’s Italian restaurant.

Guests at the new Italian can expect meals including Selica pumpkin, radicchio agrodolce and taleggio fonduta, orecchiette with cime di rapa and pangrattato, chicken Milanese with green apple, celery, fennel, creme fraiche and fresh herbs, and bay leaf panna cotta with blood orange.

In the warmer, a terrace will welcome guests where they can enjoy beers on tap, including Guinness, and Italian wines.
