I’ll second that and up the ante with a charcoal based Smoker, like the Masterbuilt gravity series. Slow smoke it, get that charcoal flavor on it, then reverse sear in a hot cast iron pan. Perfection.
I use charcoal but I don’t throw the meat directly on the coals.

What was your process? Direct heat the whole time?

Let’s not make this a thing. There is no contest especially when you burn the wood into charcoal and then cook it.

That looks great.
Next time try a longer cook with grill temps around 200°-225° until you get about 10° under your desired end-state meat temp. Then remove your steak from heat.
Open your grill wide open (try to get to 350°+). The bring your steaks back for the outer sear. You can alternately do this on cast iron in the oven.
This method takes 2x to 3x longer to cook a steak, but has amazing results. All the fat gets rendered.
