Black Pearl, an innovative restaurant combining Japanese and Italian cuisine, opened its doors on Wednesday, Jan. 21. Owner Kelvin Ole spoke about the restaurant’s dedication to technique, hospitality and elevated dining.

Black Pearl is a three-concept restaurant that includes a main dining room, an omakase and a speakeasy. The main dining room is dedicated to exceptional technique and features homemade pasta, fresh ingredients from around the globe and itameshi, which is a popular Japanese fusion cuisine. The omakase is an intimate sushi experience with a modern touch and delicious flavors led by Chef Wei Chen. The speakeasy will be open on Wednesday, Jan. 28, and will feature fun drinks and a hidden bar.
Ole went to culinary school in the Philippines and worked with some incredible chefs during his studies there. He then furthered his career when he moved to Europe in 2018. He moved to Los Angeles in 2020 and developed a curiosity for Japanese culture. He knew he wanted to start his own restaurant that included a menu full of unique and delicious twists rather than classic cuisine. He shared that the menu changes seasonally and sometimes weekly so there is always something new for guests to enjoy.
Ole said he believes that human connections were lost after 2020 and really wanted to create an elevated dining experience that emphasizes good hospitality.
“We believe in good quality,” he said and wants to “create with intention.”
Black Pearl promises to bring a unique, elevated dining experience to Ponte Vedra. It is located at 880 S.R. A1A North in Ponte Vedra Beach. To learn more, go to @blackpearljax on Instagram.
