Phillies news:

Phillies manager Rob Thomson said that Aaron Nola will pitch for Team Italy in the 2026 WBC during a speech at the @PSWABanquet.

Thomson received the organization’s Good Guy Award, and left-hander Cristopher Sánchez was named the Pro Athlete of the Year.

Nola is from Louisiana but has Italian roots.

In a 2019 Players’ Tribune article, he touched on this while explaining how he got comfortable with Philadelphia:

“I started venturing out more and exploring on our off days. I have a camera, so I would go out at night and take some pictures. It was peaceful and stress free. I’d go eat breakfast in the mornings and just walk around after with no particular destination in mind. My dad’s family is Italian, so I love Italian food. I would actually go to the Italian part of the city and write down the names of restaurants I wanted to go to.”

Nola is a Paisan. It wasn’t well-documented, necessarily, but that’s the fact, jack.

The World Baseball Classic is in March. Bryce Harper, Kyle Schwarber, and Brad Keller have committed to Team USA. You need this Nola to show up for Italia:
