In Korea, we call it ‘얼죽아’—short for ‘I’d rather freeze to death than give up my iced Americano.
You’ll see people holding iced Americanos when it’s below freezing outside.
Hot coffee is not an option. Ever.
And it’s me now! I’m in Wisconsin. This morning the temperature was -20.2°F (-29°C).
Even though I’m inside, I still went for an iced Americano. ❄️☕️

Vincenzo referred to that drink as “Sewage Waste”.
Fellow K-American here in Chicago, enjoying my 2nd cup of Iced Americano at work while it’s -10 F out. 😄
im not an americano lover tbh but you can pry my iced drinks from my cold dead hands. i went to italy last month and only had hot coffees, i wanted to cry
Its so good tho! Love my ah-ah-me
Do you have it sweetened?
Lived in Korea for 13 years, moved to Europe a few years ago and bought myself an espresso machine specifically because I can’t live without my 아아 and local cafes usually don’t sell them
I was in Korea during winter and never got used to being asked if I wanted my coffee hot or iced. In my mind I was always “It’s coffee, it’s winter, I’m cold, why would I have a iced coffee? 🤯”
Thanks for this ~ someone was trying to explain that phrase to me the other day (in relation to choosing to wear a coat rather than thick padding) and I really didn’t get it. Now I do!
