my MIL sent home cornbread and onions and said it’s a “taste sensation” to eat them at the same time. she is right and i can’t believe i am just now having the two together.

Sounds pretty good. The true way is to make stuffed cornbread with gooey cheese and onions baked inside.

Never thought to do this, and now I wonder why because of course it would be amazing. Thank you!

Great texture and flavour combo.

Weird Austrian/German thing, we like fresh mountain bread, fatback and huge chunks of onion together. It is so delicious! Bread and onion is so tasty.

My favorite Persian restaurant has a menu item “bread with seasonal vegetables” and the seasonal vegetable is always onion! And it’s delicious

Throw in some turnip greens and navy/white beans. And more onions.

I’d have never thought of this. But thankfully we’re about to be snowed in for the next 8 weeks according to the news, so I can’t think of a better way to pass the time than baking a few batches of cornbread. I grew up in the 80s raised by my grandparents, my lgrandpap was a gardening enthusiast and would grow a massive over abundance of green onions and every night before bed he would break up a few slices of bread, pour milk over them like cereal, then on a little side dish he would pour a mound of salt for his green onions. He’d dip the onion into the salt, bite it and shove a spoonful of the bread soaked with milk in behind it. He ate that every night for 60 some yrs, so it mustn’t been too bad for him. This reminds me a lot of that concoction for some reason. Gosh, I miss him. I haven’t thought about his nightly snack in probably 20 yrs, i might need to eat a little bread, milk, and salted onion midnight snack now in his honor.

Cornbread in a glass of milk with onions on the side, or with pintos onion and mayo (mixed) is one of my favorite meals. Nothing beats cornbread, milk, and onions though.

I mean, when I eat beans and cornbread there’s like half a diced onion on top every time. She is right.

My grandmother used to make fried cornbread fitters with diced onions in them. One of my favorite flavors I’ve ever experienced.

This combo plus some salted honey butter… oh man

Crumble the cornbread into a bowl with the onions and pour buttermilk over. I’ve been eating it that way all my life. It’s like a savory cereal snack.

It is crazy how many people are saying to eat onion cornbread cereal in this comment section. I would never have considered this option but wow am I intrigued.
