Was at a work thing that was very tightly scheduled

Had to leave early anyway so skipped the catered lunch and went to Hutchins on the way to the airport, the recommended local barbecue spot

40 bucks or so for 1/4 lb brisket, a sausage, 2 sides, and the free dine in dessert banana pudding

Brisket was OK, i ate it ,didn't hate it. Why was it kinda dry even though it was very fatty? 5 out of 10

The elote did its thing, creamy, corny, very good, nothing unexpected other than I thought mexican street corn off the cob was called esquites. 6.3 out of 10

Mac and cheese was ass. Noodles with velveeta and bacon bits. Hated every bite 1.5 out of 10

Jalapeño cheddar cornbread was just flavorless dust compressed into a muffin, 0.5 out of ten

Banana pudding sucked, no flavor, 1 out of 10

There is better "texas bbq" in south carolina than Hutchins

Must’ve been a bad day. It’s my favorite BBQ spot.

That looks like gentrification barbecue. Did you have to sit on an uncomfortable metal stool?

Well sorry you had that experience – if its any consolation Dallas/Ft Worth is basically Oklahoma to the folks who actually made Texas BBQ famous. (Austin, San Antonio, Lockhart, Llano – central Texas)

If you go back through, I can send you a list of about 30 places in central Texas that will blow the doors off anything you find in DFW. Ranging from food trucks to fancy establishments.

Also if you ever have the opportunity to try Terry Blacks in Austin, Texas… just don’t do that to yourself. It costs a carpayment and its just not that good imho. Not when there are so many better options within a 2 mi drive.

Best Texas bbq i ever had was from a gas station about 30 minutes outside Waxahatchie. Didn’t cost 40 bucks and I got 3 meats and two sides. Wish I could remember the places name. Maybe some Texans know? Anyway, it was phenomenal bbq.

I’m from San Diego – sounds familiar. Folks come in and eat at the wrong spot and is a bad experience. Totally empathize that sucks.

BBQ in Texas is similar – lots of places getting business just because people will eat there. Sorry you had a bad meal bud, try again at one of the tried and true!

You are correct. That is esquites, not elote. And that has to be some of the worst BBQ I’ve ever seen in Texas.

    Sounds About Right… Texas Sucks!

This is some gourmet level stuff, not greasy enough for the flavour to shine through.

Never ate there, but visually, it does not impress.

I don’t get the hype either.
I’ve been All throughout Texas multiple times and even traveled the whole border of the state in one trip and I’ve yet to have any stand out or really even decent barbecue there.

To be fair I do try to avoid most major cities but I have hit some and you would think you’d find good spots somewhere outside of the cities.

I did have some good barbecue in Washington and I believe the guy said he was from Texas if that counts. 😂

    Yeah, Hutchins is way overrated.

That looks “all sides” with a taste of BBQ.

Sorry you picked a bad spot
