This is part 23 of my ongoing "Caught in California" catch & cook series. I grabbed this California two-spot octopus and braised it nice and slow, with a quick finish on the grill.

Man, I know octopus is delicious but it’s a tough sell for me. I would eat it again but it feels disrespectful to me to eat something so intelligent lol

Fresh caught octopus can go straight to the grill dude. Thats why you lost all your suckers on the top part when cleaning the webbing after the braise, over cooked it. Post rigor needs the braised step.

Still very cool you did the whole deal. Impressive work.

If I ever have the chance to see an octopus in the wild, my last thought would be dinner. However, it does look delicious, enjoy.

I always see moral regret when it comes to eating octopus and I admit I feel it too but not enough not to eat it. That being said, at least can people respect the fact that he went and actually caught his own food? Idk how many people on this sub can say that (including myself). Looks amazing btw OP

After seeing My Octopus Teacher, it’s a hard no for me.

I’ll never eat one and I never have

After seeing what I have seen about Octopus I will not be able to eat it ever again. Same thing with other meat. Unless I had to for survival. Just my view.

How does one ethically euthanize an octopus? they are smarter than a fish, so clubbing an octopus seems barbaric. Do you jam a filet knife into it’s vital point for an painless instant kill? Or do you cook it alive like a lobster in boiling hot water or broth?

If it’s so smart it wouldn’t have got caught

So I actually caught my own octopus. It was pretty dangerous to catch it. And when I ate it, it gave me really strange dreams. Would I catch my own again? Probably couldn’t even if I wanted to, but probably wont wven try. Will I stop eating it? No. I wont eat it all the time but id definetly eat it again.

Octopus is one of the worst seafood options even when prepared well and I love seafood. Hard pass
