La Casa de Tola closed and I’m so bummed. I loved their tamales, guisados, and hand-made tortillas

Not terribly surprised. They did a terrible job of advertising, and their hours were pretty bad. Still, this was some of the best food on the block and I picked up from there every week

I always thought it was weird opening this spot up the street from a Cafe Tola.

Could be back. This looks like they didn’t re-register with the Secretary of State. Been there, done that. With fines and late filing penalties It can be pretty expensive though getting it reinstated.

I was expecting this – made reservations here a few weeks ago, we showed up and the place was totally empty with the doors locked, no mention of anything on social media/their website etc.

Was this affiliated with Cafe Tola or not? I love their black bean empanada but honestly never try going there because every time we tried the stuff we wanted was sold out.

What? This is the second post I’ve seen today where a restaurant was closed to expired licenses. The other was Rangoli in Wicker Park. Is there some overzealous enforcement agent roaming around town?

Good food but damn is it a bit overpriced. Love the empanadas but your paying $15 for 2 empanadas now after tax smh
