Its on a good sale, so I want to buy it, but the color and texture make me think its very fatty.

Texture is like soft jelly.

You could make a meat sculpture out of it if you didn’t want to eat it.

Chuck was always known for his ruddy complexion and his thick skin.

It’s made from the ears, toes, lips and other assorted less than desirable cow parts not sold elsewhere, eww

Multiple passes through a fine grinder plate. Color is fine, texture is atypical.

Not a food safety issue, but not a product I’m going to buy on purpose.

look at the ground beef in the background of your own photo. that should answer your question.

Maybe not for humn consumption? I would prefer meat ground in front of me so i know what they put in it

It’s not beef, it’s “Beef from chuck”.

    Poor chuck.

No, it looks like paste? What did they put in there to make it like that? Makes me think of Soylent Green

    Say it with me.

COLOR IS NOT AN INDICATION OF QUALITY

  10. yeah, i would usually find that kind in the opaque 3lb+ chubs. not a fan of the texture, so i don’t really buy it.

Packaging. It’s a fine/multiple grind. It’ll flush nicely red when opened and oxygen hits the hemoglobin.

Probably the meat they take off the bones with high pressure water. Its still meet (sic)

Thats what us American’s call “skillet mix”. Thats a cheaper ground beef meant for an economy shopper. It’s normally 70/30 or 65/35. I wouldn’t recommend ground beef unless it is 90/10 or 93/7. I also never get it out of non-meat department packaging

  14. I would not buy that

I would cook and feed to dog

More like interpretive art/science than actual beef. Nasty.

It doesn’t look great, but it also isn’t a bloated package 🤷 also idk if you’re in the States, I’m assuming Canada instead, but if you are then you should come to know that a lot of beef(really store bought meat in general) has color and juices added.

Looks overprocessed but that kind of packaging can make it look like that when it’s been compressed for a while like if its case was slightly crushed.

Just a super fine grind on some less that prime cuts of meat. Good for those on a budget. Makes a good hamburger helper.

  19. Quitcha_Bitchin

That’s a fine grind. be good for making sliders

  20. distressed_

It’s ground finely. It’s also very fatty, probably 70/30 or even fattier.

Solid rule of thumb: if you need to make a reddit post to find out if you can eat it, just don’t.

Solent Green. Wife sent me to Costco and all the “ground beef” looked like loose hotdog meat – organic grassfeed, bison, wagyu – all looked like bologna…

  23. Beginning_Pear_1263

That’s 70/30 on a good day. More like 60/40. I guess you can cook the grind in a fry pan and drain the fat off for like tacos. I wouldn’t try a burger.

Never buy ground beef in any sealed package. It comes from mass cattle grinding and can contain meat from hundreds of. Most grocery stores sell beef ground in house from whole cuts of meat. Buy that, it’s safer if you like your burgers cooked less than well done and won’t contain the random bone or hard thing that could break a tooth.

Super fine grind. I’d use that for keema.
