Yesterday I was crucified for posting a wet macchiato… I hope I can be forgiven by this subreddit

I felt bad being one of the top commenters last time. Sorry about that. I really do hate pretentiousness in this industry.

    You have been redeemed.

    Looks great.

I agree that the pretentiousness in this industry (as well as gate keeping a fucking drink regardless) is annoying – however there is a reason things have names!! Personally I enjoy my macchiato with “too much” milk, and a nice dry foam on top 🙂 some people would tell me this is wrong. If ordering at a cafe I would explain it as a baby cappuccino

Edit: but to add, yours is how I would serve (roughly, I can’t see how much milk is in there) unless instructed otherwise by the customer

I always ask guests whether they want a wet or a dry macchiato. It’s a great way to suss out who wants a Starbucks macchiato without insulting the folks who want an espresso macchiato

  4. Coffee is liquid
    Macchiatos are wet
    People are dumb

I don’t come to this sub nor do I have anything to contribute about macchiatos.

I have had ONE cappuccino that was actually dry. Everywhere else, I have tried every combination of everything. I’ve asked for things with extra foam, dry, etc, and they all come out with either adequate or less foam than a standard latte, that 9 times out of 10 is gone in 20 minutes. I’m so over it!

Ok vent over. Carry on with your cute coffee subreddit. I bet all y’all would make me the dryest cappuccino of my dreams

It’s just two different styles. Yesterday was a London Style Macchiato (to which I have been a fan of for a while because it’s more homogeneous) and this is traditional Italian style. Both are good, just different milk textures.

Wet macchiato is almost oxymoronic. Need a new name for a macchiato that has anything added to it that no longer makes it a macchiato

Not a single person who commented on your last post could do a Rosetta in a 3oz, they were all just jealous!

  9. Just saying, but the 2026 world latte art championship ”rules and regulations” document states in section 2.5.1 ”Free pour Latte and Macchiato” that ”the official competition espresso macchiato cup will have a volume between 74ml and 130ml”. I hope that redditors will go to the SCA so that the one true definition of macchiato can be explained to the SCA /s.

I know that the SCA is not an authority on what drink is what, but randos deciding stuff that are completely arbitrary in nature with absolutely confidence is crazy.
