Chipotle’s Chicken al Pastor is back in February
The protein is made with grilled chicken and a fruity marinade of chiles and pineapple
The popular protein was first introduced three years ago and prompted social media petitions for its return
Chipotle has heard fans’ pleas.
On Tuesday, Jan. 27, the fast-casual Mexican restaurant announced that its Chicken al Pastor is coming back.
The limited-time menu item will land in restaurants across the U.S., Canada, the U.K., France and Germany on Tuesday, Feb. 10.
First introduced three years ago as the brand’s first global menu innovation, the protein is made with grilled chicken and a fruity marinade. The marinade consists of seared morita peppers, ground achiote, pineapple, lime juice and cilantro.
Chipotle officials pointed to the protein’s “passionate following” as a reason for its return, noting that there have been more than twice as many requests for Chicken al Pastor’s return on social media than for any other limited-time offering, per a press release.
While the Chicken al Pastor makes its official comeback on Feb. 10, eager fans can get access to it a little early. Rewards members can score the protein on Monday, Feb. 9 when they order on the app or website.
The Chicken al Pastor will be available for any burritos, bowls, tacos and other standard menu items as well as the newly-released High Protein Cups.
Back in December, the chain released its High Protein Cup, a four-oz. serving of adobo chicken or steak.
Chipotle launched a whole high-protein menu with entrees too, such as a Double High Protein Bowl and High Protein-High Fiber Bowl.
