Why is this happening? Sometimes brews just fine, sometimes spills into machine.

I just got this for Christmas but have been having some major issues. Idk if it’s user error? Usually it spills into the machine the first try, waste a pod, try again the same exact way and it’s fine?? I’m so confused!
