I'm not the biggest fan of the colors, but that's what was requested!

My exact thought was “wow so cool, I’ve never seen a quilt cake before! I do wish it was different colors though.” That said it is totally what my grandma would have made, so I like the colors for that reason. 💛🤎

Just some method because I couldn’t find much guidance online when I made this last year:
Find the quilt square you want and print it out to size. This was a 13×18 cake, so I had to print it on two pieces of paper and tape them.
Poke holes in the paper at all the junction points to create your grid. After crumb-coating the cake, chill it well in the freezer, then position your paper and poke a toothpick through all your holes.
Once you have the grid, it’s pretty easy! I went color-by-color and lined my shapes first and filled them with different textures.
For the smooth, ugly yellow (lol), I put a piece of parchment over my printed square and piped on the frosting in an even layer juuust bigger than the shape, smoothed it with an offset spatula, stuck ’em in the freezer, and cut the shapes cleaner once frozen. This was a pain in the ass since they were still very fragile while frozen, and I don’t really like the finish of the edges. 😑
