Kale and white bean soup and why my dad’s birthday card made me cry.



I got to spend a little time with my Dad last week (he came to California for my birthday). He’s 81 years old and although he’s mellowed in some ways, he’s still frustratingly obtuse and often says the wrong thing at the wrong time. The internet has, I think, created impossible standards for being a person. Parents, in particular, are subjected to absurd imperatives that no human could ever satisfy. It is, among others, one of the reasons I am sometimes grateful I don’t have children of my own. My father was not perfect and is not perfect and, in all honesty, I carry the wounds of that every single day. But my father has always loved me and wanted the best for ME. He always valued ME and JUST ME—not my duty or obligation or responsibility to my family, to a husband, to the world. Just me.

Many people may view my videos as “man bashing,” but if you are paying attention, this video is quite the opposite.

    I cried so much when I heard this I just wanted to say that sometimes people need to see and hear that I and meany other people support what you stand for even if your a strong will full and beautiful person. I feel it helps to know that you are loved by everyone that supports your life and these videos.❤

    I’d like to believe that there’s a particular partner out there for everyone. A real soulmate waiting and wanting just to be able to find and be with their other half. Whether that’s a unique eclectic wabi sabi piece that’s merged by gold. Or a perfect puzzle piece that fits a whole. As a person that also believes in God and religion. Someday I hope that everybody finds his or her person and soon. Unconditionally. And sincerely. And even though in some situations find happiness and contentment with their own version of real family and friends. We’re human and being alone is not our thing. I am glad to have found your wonderful YouTube account. Keep making these really beautiful videos 🎉

    I am sorry you went through a divorce, and as the daughter of immigrants I also understand the need to keep traditions. Still your unhappiness and health can't be second to traditions. You come first, no one can say you will never be a mother for God only know the plans he has for you. I have a cousin she never met the one and wanted to be a mother that she bought sperm and did invetro. She has two beautiful kids that she raises by herself. Having kids or not having them doesn't make you less than a woman.
    May the Lord send angles ahead of your path and make way for you and the plans he has for you.

    Beautiful. Sometimes we need to honor traditions that have been around for centuries and other times we need to burn them to the ground. Time alone doesn’t make a belief special or more true.😊
