Worked an event as a somm this evening and got to take this baby homeš didnāt get the chance to really sit and taste it and think about it (like a nerd) until about 1am
Stupidly complex on the nose, even from this young vintage and after being open about 5 hours. Thereās super ripe black fruits. Oak notes, the chocolate and baking spices. A lot of herbal complexities like dried fennel and anise and leather
ā¼ļø BAD VIBES ALERT ā¼ļø
Sadly the wine had seen just barely too much air by the time I got to taste it at homeš« Some VA before the finish that just totally threw the rest of the palate off. I do still remember tasting it right after I opened it, and enjoying the massive structure and the herbaceous finish.
Really hope yāall who can afford this wine are stashing them away and not drinking them. Thereās a LONG, LONG future ahead for this one.

I have a 19 and a 22 in my collection. Do you think the 19 is ready to drink?
Thanks for the post! I have a case of this cellared (under good conditions) and planning to hold for a while. Any suggestion on what long, long hold looks like in terms of years? Thanks!
This summer I arranged a blind wine tasting for a few of my non-professional-wine-enthusiast friends. We had already been through 5 other wines before I served the 2021 similar to yours, it was served amongst other wines from the same house, other supertuscans and even a few decent Bordeaux but surprisingly all 7 of my friends were able to spot the sassicaia blind.
Notes were somewhat similar to yours, extremely powerful and lots of complexity but much much too young. I rarely drink wines of this caliber and it was almost a shame we didnāt wait at least another 10 years. But who has time for that?
I had a half bottle of the 2001 recently and thoroughly enjoyed it!Ā
