2020 Foillard Corcelette

This is a hauntingly beautiful wine, and it's at peak right now, with the youthful energy playing melody over emerging undertones. Notes from a bottle I opened a couple of months ago, which haven't changed.

Five spice, sandalwood, and crushed cranberry on the nose. Invisible tannins, M+ acidity. Soft palate, floral notes on the open evolve to gravel and mineral tones on the medium finish, accompanied throughout by a background of red berries.

  1. Not drinking enough cru Beaujolais that’s for sure! But did have a Thevenet Morgon a month ago that was stellar.

I’m drinking a disappointingly mediocre champagne. I won’t trouble you with any further details.

  3. I hen people say they don’t like Beaujolais, this is the wine to give them. It brought it to a blind tasting and everyone thought it was an Oregon Pinot, burgundy, etc and it was very well received.

Georg Breuer 2020 Estate Rauenthal. Such a lovely mature village-level Riesling, at an unbelievable $15 at PJ wine. So aromatic, honeyed mineral nose with herbs. Kind of an oily texture. Super crisp palette of lime and saline. With takeout Thai. So good!

New to wine as a hobby, had the normal Justin Cab. The wife and I really enjoyed it!

Another Beaujolais- Anne Sophie Dubois “Les Labourons”

Drinking one of our “house wines” tonight, a cheap and cheerful Argentine pinot noir, Manos Negra, which was perfect with the Chinook salmon I did in a cast skillet.
The Manos Negra is very light in colour and body, but is quite enjoyable, in a very subtle and delicate way ….

  9. the 2021 Domaine du Bel Aire Bourgueil “Grand Mont” which is nice. Loire Cab Franc is hard to beat if you need something with good QPR and a bit more body/tannin than Cru Beaujolais.

  10. Headed to a Hirsch wine dinner. 6 Hirsch wines vs. 6 competitors, plus food pairing.

  11. Just cracked the 2022 vintage of this 20 minutes ago with some Moroccan food.

God I want to buy more Foillard, but I’ve been burned badly lately. 3 out of 4 bottles that I’ve opened in the last six months have been corked; two Fleurie and one Morgon. All were 2022 vintage, so I’m curious if there was an issue with TCA at the winery that year. The one bottle of Fleurie I opened that was not corked was absolutely divine. I’ll definitely roll the dice again at some point, but it’s gonna be a minute.

I’m having the reddit house wine, 2004 Elivette lol.

A 2021 Coppo Barolo I thought I’d give a go. Very light with light red fruit and herbal character. Paired well with pasta and continued to open throughout the evening.

Having said that, love a good Beaujolais and may open a Brouilly tomorrow evening 🙂

2021 Adelsheim Willamette Valley Pinot Noir. I’m a casual wine drinker, I’m trying to get better about thinking about and describing what I drink, and this is probably the best bottle of Pinot Noir I have personally ever had. Light body, restrained acidity, smooth tannins. Initial red fruit/raspberry tartness that gives way to more of a darker, blueberry quality, long finish with something earthy, maybe coffee. An articulated character where first you get the acidity and you feel the tannins on the back. This is such an elegant step up from the random $20 Pinot noir from the grocery store that is my usual pull.

A 2001 Foppiano Vineyards Paso Robles Petite Sirah. Local shop bought a private cellar and sold a bunch of it off cheap. Slightly over the hill but still structured with lots of earth and a decent amount of fruit remaining.

  17. Finally opened the Crosarola Amarone della Valpolicella 2021 that a buddy and I Coravined like 6 months ago… decanted for a few hours and now enjoying with a shepherd’s pie I made from scratch using leftover roast lamb leg.

L’Acadie Vineyards Prestige Brut 2019. Lovely mouthfeel – substantial. Long finish. Dense with some leesey bread notes.

i have been sick the whole week. No wine for a week already 🙁 I am hoping I can get a glass this weekend. I have an opened bottle from the margau appellation. Really do not want to waste it.

  22. New World Gamay! Arnot-Roberts 2024 vintage. Great stuff for $30/bottle.

Omg Malbec. I am new to wine… so don’t judge. I have been tasting around and somehow stumbled upon Malbec…. This is the first time I have tasted any alcohol and actually wanted to keep drinking because it tasted good. I am shocked and genuinely scared of becoming an alcoholic. Also… Im half a bottle deep so I doubt this comment will be up by tomorrow.
