That will change this spring when restaurateurs Nick Ford and Wade McElroy open Kinsho, an a la carte sushi restaurant at 51 Rainey St., Suite 140, in Skyhouse, which is also home to Emmer & Rye.
Unlike many of the new sushi bars that have come to Austin in recent years — Craft Omakase, Endo, Tare, Sushi by Scratch, Tsuke Edomae — Kinsho will offer an a la carte menu instead of solely focusing on omakase dinners.
“Kinsho is meant to be a true neighborhood sushi bar, easy for Rainey residents to enjoy often, and inviting to Austinites from all over the city,” McElroy said in a release.
Chef Victor Gonzales, a veteran of Uchiko and Lucky Robot, will oversee a menu that includes nigiri, sashimi and rolls, alongside a selection of hot dishes.
The sushi restaurant will not be the first for McElroy, who is also a co-owner of Ichijiku Sushi locations in Los Angeles and Houston. He also co-owns Love Supreme and Teddy’s Cocktail Bar on Manor Road with his brother, Ryan McElroy — co-owner of Bird Bird Biscuit.
Ford said the success of Rocco’s, his and McElroy’s first restaurant together, proved to be a winning formula.
“It showcased our chemistry and abilities as restaurateurs, putting together great teams, inviting spaces and curated vibes and environments as well as our passion and love for hospitality,” Ford told the American-Statesman.
Kinsho is slated to open in March.
