Ignore the loaf, it’s just being stored in there, I baked it in a pot. To make the basket I cut old sweatpants into strips, twisted into sections of rope, tied them together, then hand sewed a coil. It was a bit like making pottery! I might have to use a tea towel in there to keep it from sticking but it beats a round colander when I want to use this particular loaf pan.

Not sure how this will wear. The rattan baskets wick water out of the dough then dry out. This is fabric so it may hold onto moisture and potentially mold unless you wash it every time

Make sure you’re using linen to line the banneton. Linen fibers are 2-3 feet long. Cotten fibers are 2-3 inches long. Using linen makes it more likely you won’t get fibers in your dough.

Nice! I could crochet one, never thought of that before!

Most sweat pants are not fully cotton. You might get micro plastics in your bead

If it’s not 100% cotton that hasn’t been treated with PFAS to make it wrinkle-free, then, yes I think that would be safe. Unfortunately, most sweatpants are a polyester blend or they’re treated to maintain a smooth texture and avoid wrinkles.

Interesting. I’d be concerned about fabric dyes and microplastics. But if you use the towel it might be helpful?
