Basic cake recipe, detroit times cookbook, 1934


Trying to find the ultimate cake recipe in my collection. This one came out "ok" but I did use shortening. A little dense but again, shortening. I dressed it up with some pudding and whipped topping.

Note, the recipe makes only one layer. Double for more than 1.

    I made this today, too! It’s just a basic tea cake according to my recipe. I made it in a 9 inch round and topped with powdered sugar and served with jam. I made it with gluten free flour, as it works great as a gluten free cake.
