Chefs Phillip Frankland Lee and wife Margarita Kallas-Lee are drawing the curtain closed on their experiential fine dining restaurant Pasta | Bar at the end of February, Lee told the American-Statesman.
The tiny tasting menu restaurant on East Sixth Street is one of Austin’s biggest-ticket dinners, with prix fixe meals starting at $235 and guests treated to a comprehensive experience, with pre-dinner and post-dinner drinks that bookend dinner in separate spaces.

was hoping to try it once as i had heard good things — but that price kept me away
Too many price gouging food joints in this town
Surprise, people don’t want mediocre and overpriced. Pick one at absolute most and you’ll probably find a crowd.
Edit: Do Sushi | Bar next.
bye
What’s crazy is they told us they had a 20 year lease on the space??
Overpriced LA restaurant chain closes Austin location. The city is healing y’all!
Good. Everything the Scratch Restaurants group does is obnoxious and overpriced. I’ve never seen so much pushy upselling in a restaurant.
Was mediocre AF. Barely any pasta courses. I like the idea of a pasta tasting menu but this one was a ripoff.
Pfft. $235.
How about 20 trips to the Olive Garden for Unlimited Soup, Salad, and Breadsticks instead?
He’s gotta refocus his efforts into NADC im sure
Good
Since they announced they’re closing, i’ll share my experience. Went in early December last year for my anniversary and encountered a roach run across the table in front of me and my wife. Immediately notified the chef and he palmed the roach right on the table and threw it away. They of course comped the meal and did everything in their power to correct it, which we really appreciated but it was just surprising that i’ve never had that happen at a restaurant and it happened here out of all places.
Had good customer service but man the food was not even pasta. Bunch of courses where the pasta is like an after thought of the dish. Glad its closing
I never knew it was spelled “Pasta | Bar”
PASTA BASED DISHES SHOULD NOT BE THIS EXPENSIVE
Good.
Good riddance
I’m reading through this thread and right smack in the middle of it is an ad for Applebee’s.
I really wanted to go there as Sushi | Bar is one of my favorite restaurants and I love pasta, but the fact that the pasta experience is more expensive than the Sushi Omakase experience never sat right with me.
and nothing of value was lost
never forget the original Infatuation review
That entire restaurant group is a scam. Greedy and quality doesn’t even come close to matching the price. Just exists to separate rich people from their money.
I went there for my birthday last year with some friends, and it was one of the best dinners I’ve ever had. The whole dinner was wonderful from start to finish. Yes pricey for sure, but in our opinion it was worth it for an over 3 1/2 hours long experience. Reading all of the comments it didn’t seem like this restaurant went over very well with most people so maybe we got lucky one night, but in general, I’m sad to see it go.
Damn. I haven’t eaten there but this is my favorite cocktail bar in East Austin. The front bar is a foyer where guests wait for the two dinner seatings. But between seatings, it’s really quiet and empty. So you can stroll in and order anything you could want from some really phenomenal bartenders and have a great conversation. We usually pop over after dinner at Fukimoto or when we just want a really great drink in an intimate setting.
They probably expand burger place or lean more that way.
Btw also a waste of money 17 dollars for a fast food style smash burger is never worth it to me.
We have a reservation on February 28. Trying to decide if this means we’ll have a phone-it-in meal or a nice send off.
What a shame. Just went there and it was amazing! VERY pricey though. Definitely a special occasion place
You want good pasta go to artipasta 😩
Man, that’s too bad. I’ve been there a couple of times & loved it every time!
