Recent Tabelog gold and chef’s gold award winner.
Exceptional value for the money. Course was approximately 55,000 yen per person filled with lots of Taiza crab and carb courses. The crab fried rice and beef rice bowl were optional with no additional charge.
Shinya Matsumoto is the head chef and ex head chef of the Wakuden group. His technique is well refined and atmosphere was more relaxed, not as intense as some other Kaiseki places in Kyoto. He was also closed for a month in Nov 2025 due to health reasons but he looked good for service on this date.
His grilled fugu shirako hand roll with sauce was one of the best things I’ve ever eaten. His crab miso soup and sake was also unique and delicious. Hard to get reservations now as they are booking in Jan for July/August.
