Emi & Liv’s Cucina is run by husband and wife Rachel and Pierpaolo (Paolo) Finco, who began the business during the Covid pandemic.
Rachel explained: “I was already at home caring for our two young daughters, and Paolo was managing a restaurant in London that was forced to close. With so much uncertainty around us, it felt like the right moment to take a leap and do something for ourselves.
“With a big push and encouragement from a close friend, Emi & Liv’s Cucina was born. We initially focused on delivering freshly prepared, authentic Italian family meals – something comforting and familiar that people really needed at that time.”

In 2025, the family made the decision to move from London to Cumbria, where Rachel’s mother was born, to continue growing the business.
She said: “We’d spent many holidays here over the years and always felt a strong family connection to the area. Eventually, we decided that now was the time to take the risk. Cumbria feels like the perfect place to raise our daughters – they love the freedom and independence of being able to head outside and play on the fell.”
Since moving, the couple say they have been struck by the friendliness of the area.
Rachel said: “The community has been incredibly welcoming; at first, it was almost a novelty that everyone smiles and says hello when you pass them on a walk!”

Now based in Cumbria, Rachel and Paolo run pop-up restaurant evenings and cater for local events, working in venues across Carlisle and north Cumbria. Recent events have included a pop-up evening at Orton Market Hall and a private celebration in Keswick.
Rachel said: “They’ve allowed us to meet so many wonderful people and work in a huge variety of spaces – from rural village halls to pubs and even castles.
“Every pop-up is different, but they all share the same relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. They’re a great way of bringing communities together, as well as welcoming people from outside the area.”

Looking ahead, the couple have several pop-up events planned over the coming year and will be catering at a number of Cumbrian weddings.
Rachel said: “Overall, we’re just very happy to be here, doing what we love, in such a supportive community.”
