Banchina Italian will take over the former TGI Fridays site at the front of Gloucester Quays, offering views across the Docks.

While an exact launch date has not been confirmed, the restaurant is expected to open in late February or early March.

The arrival of Banchina Italian marks a new independent addition to the centre’s predominantly chain-led dining scene, which includes brands such as Wagamama, Pizza Express, Nando’s and Zizzi.

The restaurant is the second UK venture from the team behind Sef Steakhouse in Cheltenham, one of the town’s top-rated dining spots.

Their experience spans restaurant operations across Turkey and Kuwait.

The website reads: “Banchina Italian is a new casual Italian dining restaurant opening in early 2026 at Gloucester Quays, bringing the warmth, flavour and spirit of Italy to the city in a relaxed, quality-focused setting.

“Inspired by years of travel across Italy, from the Amalfi Coast and Naples to Lake Como and the Dolomites, Banchina Italian is built on a simple philosophy that great food, warm hospitality and beautiful surroundings should feel effortless.

“The menu will focus on fresh, premium ingredients and well-executed Italian classics, designed to feel approachable yet refined. An open kitchen and Neapolitan pizza oven sit at the heart of the restaurant, allowing guests to experience the energy, craftsmanship and pace of a true Italian kitchen.

“Banchina Italian is designed as a place to enjoy simple but exceptional dishes, genuine hospitality and the joy of Italian dining, whether for a quick lunch, a relaxed evening meal or time spent around the table with friends and family.”

The restaurant will seat around 130 diners and promises a modern Mediterranean aesthetic in a “lively yet comfortable” setting.

Elsewhere at Gloucester Food Dock, two new arrivals are expected soon.

Wagyu & Feather, a street food concept focused on British Wagyu beef, is due to open this month.

Mazala Dosa, which will serve South Indian-style crispy dosa and masala dishes, is also set to launch soon.
