AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) – The High Plains Food Bank received one of the largest food donations for the 250th anniversary of the signing ofthe Declaration of Independence.

A JustServe-branded semi carrying about 40,000 pounds of food donated by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to support families in need.

“Food rescue and food donations is what we depend on, and this year is a little bit over 80% of what we received so far for January and February is donated product. Having this come in is what drives an officiancy for us as an organization,” said Zack Wilson, High Plains Food Bank executive director.

The delivery is part of a national collaboration between the church, JustServe and America250.

As part of the national campaign, 250 truckloads of food will be donated to communities in 50 states.

“Celebrate loving one another and serving our neighbors and that’s what this is all about. So just thank you from the bottom of my heart and from all the people I’ve gotten to work with. This is seriously so amazing, and I’m so excited to see how many people this can bless,” said Hannah Lusk, Amarillo Area JustServe.
