Did a burn off on my new Weber Kettle. Did I use too much oil? I’m hoping next time I heat this up I can just scrub the residue off the grates and the griddle will “even out” and lose the specs.

Ok. The charcoal always sits on top of your bottom grate. I’d say everything is fine. The greatest is going to get a lot dirtier looking than it is now. I would suggest typing all the questions you have in your head in the search bar and spend some time reading and watching you tube videos on fire management before your do your first cook.
