Wine Tasmania has opened applications to the local and interstate wine trade and hospitality professionals for its Tasmanian and National Wine Trade visitation program.
The program, which is supported by the Tasmanian Government, provides behind-the scenes tailored visits enabling successful applicants to connect with Tasmania’s wine growers and makers, as well as taste a wide range of local wines.
Wine Tasmania CEO Sheralee Davies says the programs play a vital role in connecting wine trade with the island’s producers.
“The best way to really explore and understand a wine region, particularly one as diverse as Tasmania, is to visit firsthand. Kick the dirt, feel the weather, taste the produce, explore the geography, soils, topography and landscapes, and meet the people who have chosen to grow grapes and make wine in Tasmania.”
The visits for local trade will take place during the busy harvest period, on the north of Tasmania on Monday, 13 April and then for the south on Monday, 20 April. Visits at this busy time will enable participants to experience the energy of vintage with a possible tasting or two of wines undergoing fermentation. Ten places are available for each visit.
Wine Tasmania’s National Trade Visit will take place from Sunday, 24 to Tuesday, 26 May and will be based in the south, but will feature wines from around the island. Places are available to interstate wine buying professionals and limited to 10 in total, one of which will be selected by Sommeliers Australia.
Application details are available on the Wine Tasmania website, with local applications closing on 20 March, and national applications closing on 3 April.
