A storefront in The Walk vacated by one Greek restaurant is now going to be occupied by another.

The Great Greek Mediterranean Grill will be opening soon at 2764 N. University Drive, which used to be the location of Hellenic Republic.

That restaurant, headed by chef Nikol Zarbalas, closed its doors at the end of its lease in The Walk in January 2025 and recently re-opened at a new location on Atlantic Boulevard, rebranded as Hellenic.

“Coral Springs is the kind of community we want to be part of — family-oriented, welcoming and deeply connected,” said Mike Brugger, President of Franchise Real Estate, an affiliated brand of United Franchise Group. “Many residents grew up there and continue to build their lives and raise their own families in the city, which creates a strong sense of pride and togetherness.”

Amera Corporation, which owns The Walk on University Drive, shared in June that the restaurant chain had signed its lease and was set to begin renovations at its new spot.

The location is expected to open in early spring, a spokesperson for the chain told the Coral Springs News.

The chain started in a suburb of Las Vegas in 2016 when founders Nick Della Penna and Trent Jones stopped by a family-run Greek restaurant that was looking to sell, according to the brand’s website.

With the success of their first few restaurants, they franchised the business in partnership with United Franchise Group.

The brand has since expanded across the U.S. and currently operates 13 locations in Florida, including in West Boca, Oakland Park and Wynwood.

“As we continue to grow nationally, we’re intentional about opening in places where we can become a true neighborhood restaurant, and we’re excited to serve Coral Springs families and become part of the community for years to come,” Brugger said.
