Being an Italian man from the northeast makes me an authority figure when it comes to pizza. Trust me when I say that bar pizza is one of the best styles out there.
The crust is thin and cracker like, the underside is always perfectly crisp, the tomato sauce needs to be low moisture to keep it crisp so it’s a base of crushed tomatoes, usually San Marzanos. Most places use a blend of cheese, typically cheddar with mozzarella and it's always 8-10 inches.
You can get this type of pizza mostly in the south shore but there is a famous spot in Boston too.
This one is pepperoni and mushrooms and it comes from my favorite place, Lynwood's in Randolph, MA

Lynwood’s is still tops! Bar owners preferred this 10” pan pie as the slices could be held and eaten with one hand leaving the other hand ready to drink. I missed the South Shore bar pizza so much after moving south, I taught myself to make them at home. Took a few different recipes and a couple dozen pies but my wife’s dough made the difference. There is now pizza peace in my world.

South Shore Bar Pie slaps. New Haven style is phenomenal. I feel like New England doesn’t get the recognition it deserves because it’s neighbor has the OG american style pies.
That’s a delicious looking pizza, pizza in MA can be very hit or miss. Good to know where the spots that hit are located, thank you for sharing.
My hometown pizzeria (may she rest in peace 😭) looked just like this. It was greasy as hell and pretty unappealing unless you were drunk but those ovens were used daily for over 40 years and the flavor they baked into those slabs was the stuff of the Gods.

Went to Stoney’s in Middleboro a few months back while visiting friends.
the more traditional style pizzas were good, but some of the out there stuff – i think we had pot roast and crab rangoon – were not really working for me. and i usually like out there stuff.
