NGL, I’m surprised kegged wine isn’t more popular.

My local brunch place must go through so many crates of bottle of Cava, you’d think someone would have shown up to meet this demand

Wine on tap is becoming increasingly popular in some parts of Canada. It’s….not good.

Kegged wine is a thing here in the Santa Ynez valley. Many local producers keg wine to sell in local restaurants.

The keg doesn’t seem like a bad idea, but I’m sceptical of a wine served by the pint. I’m not Johnny Depp.

I was in Paso Robles last year with some wine pros and one of the winemakers we visited had wine in kegs. Our host popped a bottle and blind tasted us on it and the same wine from a keg. None of us could really tell the difference, and of those who said they could, some said the keg wine tasted better!

Yes! My uncle in Greece had a small bit of land with grapes. Every year they’d harvest, mash the grapes and send the juice samples to the University. He had a big barrel in an old stone cellar on the property and every few days would drive over and fill a few bottles. It wasn’t bad at all

Is it diluted a little bit? That mug looks like it would hold close to an entire bottle.

We have it in the US but we call it Franzia and have a tradition called “Slap the Bag” and “going to the Emergency Room”

I’ve grown to like it, but with that being said, I generally prefer either regular beer or regular wine

  10. My neighborhood taphouse — in Oregon — has 5 or 6 kegged wines.

That’s not wine from a keg or even related to beer or wine. “Chopp de vinho” is a carbonated mix of sparkling water, grape juice, sugar, and synthetic flavours. Sometimes, it can have very low quality table wine mixed in just for added value.
I recommend you try Italian Grape Ale (IGA) instead. It is a style of beer that actually has real wine or grape must/pomace blended in.

Not sure why so many people seem to think it’s a cheap wine thing or rarity in the states. I live in Minnesota, the last place to get anything exciting, and wine in tap is all over the place. It’s not going to be grand cuvée juice, of course, but it’s certainly not franzia. There’s plenty of restaurants with prosecco on tap or whatever your standard $10-14 glass pour on tap.

Now, this is different from the low alcohol pint-o-wine in the photo, but we definitely have wine on draft here.

Yup. Our local wineries will distribute wine by the keg to the local bars and restaurants. Also, we should hang out.

I saw my first wine draft system in a casino bar I was doing construction in probably 10 years ago.

Seemed like a cool system, they used nitrogen for everything so the wine didn’t pick up any CO2 and create carbonation.

I tasted this when I was in São Paulo. Thank god its not common where I live. Calling this somewhat related to “wine” is a crime against real wine.
Isso é sangria com gás, meu brother. 😁

That looks like some sort of Tinto de Verano
