The Western Australian government will invest $6 million in the WA wine industry through a new four year Western Australian Wine Industry Partnership with Wines of Western Australia.
The funding, matched by $3 million from the WA wine industry, builds on an established collaboration aimed at diversifying export offerings and increasing participation in global markets.
“It’s no secret that thanks to our innovative wine makers, WA produces some of the finest wines in the world,” said regional development minister Stephen Dawson.
“A thriving wine industry has flow on benefits for regional jobs and tourism opportunities, that’s why we made an election commitment to further bolster this industry.”
The industry led partnership will focus on expanding local, national and export market opportunities while supporting long term sustainability for wine producers. Activities include inbound and outbound trade activations, promotion of supply chain relationships, improved market access and building business readiness.
“This partnership will leverage those gains to expand domestic and international export sales, while building industry resilience and capacity to adapt to the changing operating environment,” said Dawson.
“Working alongside our partners, more consumers at home and abroad will be able to savour our state’s premium quality wines and discover what our unique wine regions have to offer.”
The program also takes a ground up approach to sustainability, with investment in research and development to improve production outcomes, strengthen business resilience and workforce capability, and support environmental, social and governance practices.
Wine tourism forms part of the strategy, working with domestic and international networks to attract visitors to WA wine regions and encourage direct engagement with producers.
The Western Australian Wine Industry Partnership will be delivered in collaboration with Wines of Western Australia and other industry stakeholders. The WA wine industry is valued at $900 million.
“The Wine Industry Partnership is set to deliver a win for regional communities in terms of driving jobs and supporting local businesses,” said Samantha Rowe member of the Western Australian legislative council.
“Through strengthening supply chains and expanding market opportunities, the WA government is helping regional wine producers grow their businesses and raise their profile to a wider audience.”
