Fun little $15 wine today. Underrated grape variety from a VERY underrated AVA in Upstate New York.
Light and fresh, but with interesting aromas. Bright citrus fruits, a spicy pine-like note, and a very distinct toasted sesame seed aroma. The sesame note is really cool. I’ve only found it in a couple other wines.
It’s a bit more straightforward on the palate. Fresh citrus fruits, with some mineral notes. It also feels a bit sticky in the finish, almost like it has elevated tannins, but it’s not a skin contact wine and it’s unoaked so I might just be tweaking.
If you’ve been getting bored of Sauvignon Blanc, this is something to look for! The crisp, light profile is there, but with a more unique personality.

Love everything I’ve had from Dr. K. Will be passing through the area in a few months. Hope to track down a bottle or two of their Grüner Veltliner
FLX producing some fantastic wines lately. Really enjoying some of the Hillick & Hobbs dry Riesling out of Seneca Lake. Two cases from Apollo’s Praise on the way 💪🏻
Love me some finger lakes
I’ve been looking at Finger Lakes wine and wine from the Niagara escarpment recently. Dr K kept popping up. Thanks for the notes!
Covid cut our finger lakes vacation out, may be time to rebook.
Agreed, it’s nice and very good value. My notes said ‘herbaceous’ on the nose, so it’s interesting that that you mention ’pine-like’.
I had it side by side with the skin-contact Amber. That one was good as well, but too careful on the skin contact to truly call it Amber. So I’d go with the stainless steel version here.
The rkats is a particular banger among a lot of great wines from Dr Frank
I’ve enjoyed their Gewürztraminer before. Seen this one at the store before and it piqued my interest, I’ll have to give it a try sometime
One of the best Riesling makers on this side of the pond. I’m still very biased for Mosel Riesling, my family has been a producer/farmer there for 200 years. Riesling is what brought my direct ancestors to WNY in the 1880s. We helped the first producers grow grapes for Riesling in the late 19th century. Like I said, I’m biased
That’s my go to for Chinese and middle-eastern takeout. Always reliably hits the spot.
Don’t sleep on silver thread. Their 2024 dry riesling is fantastic. I’m excited for the other 2024 bottlings, they are already ready to go!
