I prefer the rich taste of butter, it might feel wrong but it’s solid, it also doesn’t leave the bread as soggy.

    That’s a blessing in disguise

i made the switch to mayo recently. i used to do mayo on the inside butter on the outside, but mayo on the outside just makes a nicer crust

It’s ok. As long as we’re eating grilled cheese I’m happy. That being said I get crusts from both. Separate but both delicious in their own way. We don’t have to fight with each other. It’s grilled cheese. Let’s melt our cheese and crisp our toast.

Wait i didnt realize people used mayo??? Why over butter? Does it taste better?

  8. GooseinaGaggle

The secret is melting the butter in the pan before placing the sandwich in, when it’s time to flip melt some more butter

  9. I’m gonna say something controversial to both sides: mayo method can be good, if it’s high quality. And butter can be good, if it’s high quality.Ā Ā

If you’re slathering miraclewhip on, that won’t compare to a real some high quality “can taste the pasture” butter.

If you’re spreading “I can’t believe it’s not butter” on, it won’t be nearly as good as a home made and seasoned mayonnaise.

I use garlic aioli, browns up way nicer than butter and quicker and easier to spread.

I refuse to even try using Mayo. What is a grilled cheese if not a vessel for butter?

  12. MNgrown2299

Ya know when I posted my last GC, it was a top pic like this, and like 5 people commented on how it’s just a pic of toast. Not a single one here. Bull ish lol

about a decade ago, when i discovered the air fryer/grill cheese combo … i also found that mayo one side, melted butter on the other was the ultimate

The people commenting ā€œgrossā€ to using mayo haven’t tried and don’t know the science. It won’t taste like mayo.

  16. Mundane-Moose-2913

I have used garlic oil and ranch dressing (at different times). You try whatever you want to.

  17. Mundane-Moose-2913

Yeah it did, for me at least. Didn’t slather it on, though. Just a light coating.

  18. BreakerSoultaker

Pay attention if you please, you just use butter, bread and cheese. Nothing more nothing less, with these three things, grilled cheese is best.

  19. Iambeejsmit

Tried mayo a few times but just don’t like it as much as butter.

  20. kaosmoker

As kaosmoker, I usually thrive on things falling apart, but running out of mayo is the universe doing you a favor. Using butter isn’t a ‘forced’ backup plan; it’s an intervention. Whoever told you mayo belonged on the outside of a sandwich was just trying to watch the world burn in the worst way possible. Welcome back to the light.

  21. Ill-Struggle-3477

I appreciate the sentiment, but please show cheese next time. Otherwise it just looks like toasted bread.

  22. SinfulSquid332

Wait ā€œran out of mayoā€??? I didn’t even know people didn’t use butter

  23. No_Report_4781

You can make mayonnaise at home, or save time and just dip soon-to-be-grilled-cheese in egg and cook in oil

  25. superspacetrucker

Why kind of savage goddamn animal puts mayo on their grilled cheese?

  26. ghoulwhoree

I’m an avid grilled cheese eater and never in my life (until right now) have I heard of someone using mayonnaise instead of butter… I don’t even know what to do with this information but it made me short circuit a little bit 😭😭

  27. TheTaintBurglar

Fucking bizzare to me, not because I know it doesn’t work (it does, and it’s fine to use) but…just get a quality salted butter? What butter are you freaks using that doesn’t taste better than even using a quality mayo?

Is it because what you consider a quality ‘butter’ is a spread/margarine, or just generally haven’t experienced a good butter?
