SuperValu has recalled a well-known Italian cheese from its shelves after a potential health hazard was detected in a particular batch.
An urgent recall has been announced for a batch of Mauri Formaggi Taleggio Bon Ta’leggio D. O.P. 200g, which may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, a dangerous bacteria capable of causing severe illness.
The impacted cheese carries the use by date 02.03. 2026 and batch code 4564914.
It was available in numerous shops throughout Ireland, including SuperValu, reports the Irish Mirror.
Shoppers are being advised not to consume the product and to get in touch with the retailer where it was bought for a full refund.
Listeria infections can vary from minor flu-like symptoms, vomiting and diarrhoea, to serious complications in at-risk groups. The Food Safety Authority of Ireland warned symptoms can take up to 10 weeks to emerge.
An FSAI spokesperson stated: “The above batch of Mauri Formaggi Taleggio Bon Ta’leggio D.O.P. is being recalled due to the possible presence of Listeria monocytogenes. Recall notices will be displayed at point-of-sale.
“Symptoms of Listeria monocytogenes infection can include mild flu-like symptoms, or gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea. In rare cases, the infection can be more severe, causing serious complications.
“Some people are more vulnerable to Listeria monocytogenes infections, including pregnant women, babies, and people with weakened immune systems, including the elderly. The incubation period (time between initial infection and first symptoms appearing) is on average 3 weeks but can range between 3 and 70 days.

SuperValu has issued an apology for any inconvenience caused. A spokesperson stated: “Mauri Formaggi are recalling the above batch of product due to the possible presence of Listeria Monocytogenes.
“If you have purchased the above batch of product, please do not consume it, contact our customer care line on 01 2011617 to obtain a full refund.
