I'm doing some planning for my greenhouse plants this year and am trying to figure out what to plant for a slicer variety, and I'm between these two.
For a little context, I live in Alberta, so we already have a very short growing season and relatively cool temperatures into June, hence the greenhouse. It's also quite dry and sunny here. Does anyone have any insight into what might do better in these conditions? My greenhouse can easily get to over 30 degrees C.

CP normally has a shorter DTM.
BK has that incredible flavor.
Tough…
I’ve never been very impressed with C. Purple (over many years, and from many seed sources). Krim on the other hand can be spectacular, if you get a good selection of it.
Both set fruit decently well in cool temps for me, but I’d lean towards Krim in terms of cool weather/short season (I think it also deals with heat better). It has a bushy & very unruly growth habit, though…..if you’re planning on trying to keep it pruned to any specific scheme, it can be a bit frustrating 🙂
You might want to try Cherokee Carbon.
dont forget better boy and brandywine!
Black Brandywine did well for me last year, we also had a cool start to summer with a couple of heatwaves towards the end. Delicious and fairly prolific.
I grew both of these last season and I’m in Central Texas so I can’t speak to Alberta, but with a shorter growing season I might recommend another variety instead of either of these two. You might want to look into pink Berkeley tie dye. I think it’ll give you the best of Cherokee purple in a shorter season. Black Krim is a great tomato but Berkeley Tie Dye will equal or better it for flavor and reach maturity faster.
Im in zone 9b and had both this winter season. Both did very well and I liked the taste of the Cherokee purple a tad more than the other but not by much. Black Krim produced way more. It did well when it was super hot and faired better at the end of the season when frost came. If I had to choose one id say black krim is probably a safer bet.
Mountain Fresh/Mountain Fresh plus does well in the Phoenix area, which is a short season (lasting around 90 days) because of early summer heat. But it will take the heat until it gets ridiculous.
I will back Black Krim over CP everyday. Less problems and disease for me and great tasting. 6b Ohio
In central Europe I’ve not been able to have much success with any CP types/varieties. BK on the other hand is among my top-3 all time favourites and a must-have each and every season.
There’s a hybrid called brandy boy that is supposed to be a similar flavor profile but more productive than both. I’m going to try it this year. I have been growing CP since 2020 and I’m losing patience with it. The shoulders often don’t fully ripen either so there’s a bit of waste.
I used to be cherokee but now I’m krim. I’ve never eaten them side by side. I feel like my krim produce more and longer but I could be wrong. I try not to overthink it
